"I Feel Reborn": Vannida's Story of Faith After Tragedy in South East Asia
Vannida's husband was killed for his faith. Open Doors partners visited, prayed, and brought encouragement — and something shifted. "I feel reborn," she says.

Analysis
Vannida's husband Phansak was killed because of his active service to the Lord. In the aftermath of that loss, Vannida found herself at the edge of her faith — heartbroken, hopeless, and considering whether to renounce the beliefs that had cost her so much.
She chose not to. "My husband's death was not in vain," she says. Open Doors' local partners visited Vannida, prayed with her, and brought encouragement. The effect was transformative. "I feel reborn," she told them.
Vannida continues to face opposition from her family and community. The pressure to abandon her faith has not gone away. But something has shifted in her — a renewed conviction that the God who sustained her husband is the same God who will sustain her.
Open Doors UK, which supports persecuted Christians in over 70 countries, shares stories like Vannida's to build a community of prayer and solidarity around believers who are suffering for their faith. For UK Christians, her story is both a challenge and an inspiration. She is holding on to faith in circumstances that most of us will never face. The least we can do is pray.
